The morning after a night of partying is always rough, but looking fresh isn’t as hard as you think. All you need is a few tricks to save your face.
Start off by drinking a lot of water right away. This will help reduce dehydration, which is a major cause of hangover symptoms.
1. Hydrate Your Skin
The number one thing that alcohol does to your body, including your skin, is dehydrate it. This causes the skin to look sallow, fine lines are more visible and pores become obvious. To get your skin back to its normal state, drink lots of water and use a hydrating mask containing hyaluronic acid.
Another way to hydrate the skin is to massage it with cold ice cubes or an ice roller. The cold helps to relax the muscles, and it also rejuvenates blood circulation. It is recommended to do this on a regular basis as a way of maintaining healthy and glowing skin. This is especially important if you frequently party or drink too much.
2. Make Your Eyes Look Bright
The eyes say a lot about us, and they can also be a dead giveaway that you’ve overdone it the night before. Dark circles, puffy skin, and red blotches can all make your eyes look smaller and less healthy. Fortunately, there are a few simple makeup and beauty hacks you can use to brighten up your peepers.
Cucumbers and cold tea bags are both good for reducing any puffiness around your eyes. You can also try soaking cotton balls in cold milk and placing them over your eyes. The nourishing properties of the milk help reduce any dryness and itchiness around your eyes. And last but not least, applying a light layer of illuminator to the inner corner of your eye will add brightness and freshness.
3. Apply a Hydrating Mask
When you’re dehydrated, your skin looks sallow and fine lines become more visible. Obviously drinking water is the best way to stay hydrated, but it’s also important to use hydrating face masks.
Opt for one that is both detoxifying (your pores are probably clogged and angry after that third margarita) and hydrating (to restore your moisture levels). You could opt for a clay, charcoal, or even a brightening sheet mask with pearl or bee pollen, and remember to only leave it on for the recommended time.
If you want to go extra steps, add a layer of a moisturizer with hyaluronic acid, and then top that with an eye cream with caffeine to help reduce the appearance of blood vessels in the under-eye area. This will make your eyes look luminous.
4. Get Some Sleep
There’s a delicate balance between partying till you drop and sleeping like a baby. That’s why it’s important to prepare your sleep environment before going out, by buying blackout curtains or a mask, setting your alarm for an hour before you need to wake up and preparing your mattress with a soft pillow.
Also, try to avoid drinking more than a few drinks right before bed. And if you do need to have a drink, it’s best to front load it early, then gradually taper off over the night. Once you wake up, immediately gulp down two glasses of water to start rehydrating your body. This will help reduce puffiness and keep the hangover at bay. Then you can look fresh and ready to go!
5. Drink Plenty of Water
If you want to avoid a hangover, the best thing you can do is drink plenty of water throughout the night. Alcohol acts as a diuretic and all those trips to the bathroom can strip your body of H2O, leading to dehydration and that dreaded hangover. A good rule of thumb is to drink one glass of water for every alcoholic beverage you consume, which will help you manage your consumption and keep the hangover at bay. Plus, drinking water will help hydrate your skin and ward off the dryness that can lead to red blotches under your eyes and on your cheeks. Drinking a lot of water can also make your teeth whiter and your complexion brighter. So keep a large water bottle with you and set alarms to remind yourself to sip on it regularly.
